WELCOME TO GIRLGUIDING PENNINE DIVISION |
|
As a Division we are happy to support the bid for Glossop to become a Fairtrade town. So much so that when we opened our new headquarters at Dinting in July 2006 we pledged to serve only Fairtrade drinks in the building. This includes groups hiring the building for sleepovers as well as drinks served at leaders meetings.
Girlguiding UK has many initiatives to help Rainbows, Brownies and Guides to learn about global issues including trade justice. The Guide Section has a Chocolate badge which includes a section learning about the impact of Fairtrade on farmers in the developing world and Brownies are encouraged to explore these issues through the “My World” part of the programme.
Ensuring that we use only Fairtrade tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the building will help to reinforce the message to the girls that by making a simple switch to the use of these products they can help to change the lives of others.
By pledging to make our building a Fairtrade building we hope to encourage other groups and businesses in the area to follow our lead.
